Rikke Gandrup, hotel manager at Color Hotel Skagen, talks about the four seasons in Skagen.
Springtime
When spring arrives, Skagen is full of anticipation - you can feel the days getting lighter and longer, and you'll experience a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of time to enjoy the sunshine and beautiful nature. In April and the first part of May, migratory birds return home from warmer climes and some days you can see up to 100 different bird species. If you want to spot the big migrations, the best view is from the dunes or Flagbakken - here you're sure to meet birdwatchers practicing their hobby in the open air and sharing their knowledge.
Spend your spring visit at one of the city's many restaurants or cafés with outdoor seating - what's better than a meal under the stars? For example, stop by Iscafeen down in Østerby, a small cozy place where you can get delicious smørrebrød. If the weather is for indoor activities, there are galleries and craftsmen you can visit around the city - most are actually open all year round.

Summertime
Throughout the summer, the sun is high in the sky and provides a very special light. Summer is also the time of year when 7,000 Skagbo residents are joined by happy guests from all corners of the world - and it's safe to say that the little fishing village gets an international touch that helps create this special vibrant holiday atmosphere.
If you want to experience the town like a true Skagbo, either rent a bike or walk around, because nothing is far away. Sit down at the harbor and take a look at the many ships on the nest or make your way past Grenen. The city also offers many small oases where you can take a breather. Visit, for example, the restaurant and music venue, Sømærket, which has delicious wines on the menu, local produce, bread baked in its own bakery, great music and a really nice atmosphere.

Autumn in Skagen
When fall is upon us, Skagen slows down and you'll experience a more relaxed atmosphere. In early fall, nature takes out its purple brush and paints the beautiful heather-covered moors with large strokes - you can't miss them as you approach the town from the south.
Nature also unfolds by the sea. In September, you can experience 'Blue September' and more specifically the 'Blue Hour' - the twilight hour when the light is remarkably beautiful. The phenomenon is best experienced on the Grenensporet trail, which offers four different routes. Along the way, you'll find information boards to help you learn more about the history, nature and wildlife of Grenen.
Autumn is also the season for the Skagen Marathon, which this year is on Saturday, October 5. Everyone can take part in the long 42.2 km distance, a walk n' talk and the kids can be sent off on a 5 km run.
Winter in Skagen
Winter brings a special calm to the town, and you can experience a slightly more raw and locally influenced Skagen - it's the perfect respite from an otherwise busy day. In December, the Christmas spirit comes to the city, where the small cafés invite you in for a sweet treat.
If you want to experience green nature even in winter, you'll find Skagen Klitplantage - a pristine coniferous forest both east and west of the town. If you visit Flagbakken, you can enjoy 360-degree views looking out over the water, Skagen town and towards Gammel Skagen. Another great view is in the area around Klitgaarden, the old royal villa that is now a retreat. The sanded church, which is otherwise a favorite spot for tourists, you'll most likely have it all to yourself this time of year - and the same goes for the surrounding nature area.
