Hiking: Sæby, Blue Route - 5 km

This is a route that the children will love, winding past Nellemanns Have, through the cool shade of Jernkilden, and into the hilly Sæbygård Forest. A curving stream leads the way, guiding you through nature before returning to town by the sea.

BLUE ROUTE - 5 KM
The route follows the seafront promenade north, winding up past the lush diversity of Nellemann’s garden and the cool shade of Jernkilden, down through the hilly Sæbygård Forest to the cultural center “Skovlyst”. Follow the meandering river through the forest back to the town, along the town's old, narrow gardens to the river's outlet into the sea. This is a trip that even the kids will love.

Shall we take a trip through the rat holes?
Sæby Å, the town's lifeblood and green “umbilical cord”, connects the forest to the sea. Since Viking times, its mouth has formed a natural and important harbor in the northern Kattegat and the river has supplied water and power to the stamp mill, tannery, dye works and Sæby Water Mill. A “secret” spot on the tour is the road bridge with its spherical openings and built-in echo - popularly known as the “rat holes”. An almost magical transition from forest to city.

  • Sæby Beach Promenade (2.4 km long).
  • Nellemanns Garden. Paradise apple garden, forest and rhododendron garden etc.
  • Sæby Iron Spring, designed by Plesner, from 1887, when the town became a spa town with health cures for, among other things, anemia.
  • “Skovlyst”, forest pavilion, 1881. Now SæbyScenen.
  • Sæby Watermill ca. 1800, roots in the 1600s.

Map over the four routes (Danish).

'Kløverstierne' is a nationwide trail concept that offers a great opportunity to walk, cycle or run a measured and marked tour, where you can also get a lot of experiences. A 'kløversti' consists of four routes, all of which start from a centrally located cloverleaf post. In Sæby it is located at Sæby Harbor by the bridge over Sæby Å.
