Hiking route: Øster Brønderslev

The routes by Øster Brønderslev (8.1 km, 6 km og 3.1 km) takes you through Galgebakken, Bålhøj Plantage and tells stories of Damhale and Tingstedet.

A lovely spot in the middle of Vendsyssel. The city is, with its 900 inhabitants, a town in continoues developemtn. The town has an old district and throughout time, new districts have appeared. With the highway right around the cornor, the city has an advantageoues position for visitors from both Aalborg in the south and Hjørring in North.

Galgebakken: The big rock positioned here, tells the story of Jerslev Herredstings gallow, where criminals would be hanged. Being positioned on the hill along the road, the gallow, with dead people in it, could be seen to strike horror and fear in the bypassing people.
Tingstedet: The memorial stone at Tingstedet shows that people up untill 1688 hosted events where legal disputes would take place.
Damhale: The area beneath Galgebakken "Damhale" used to be a swamp, and here it is said that the voice of a distant woman lingers.
Bålhøj plantage: The original Bålhøj was a part of a nationwide network og bålhøje, meaning a place of signalling. Here, there was a warning and weapon system.
