Top 10 in idyllic and charming Sæby
Join us on a guided tour to one of North Jutland's cosiest and most beautiful towns - picturesque Sæby offers forest, beach and town in a wonderful combination. Treat yourself to a visit to this gem, which has previously been voted Denmark's third best town.
Sæby is located on the Kattegat on the east coast of North Jutland - approximately 50 kilometres north of Aalborg and 50 kilometres south of Skagen. Unlike the North Sea, the Kattegat is a calm sea. And perhaps precisely because Sæby's beaches extend into the Kattegat, the town is characterised by a cosy and calm mood and atmosphere, which leaves its mark on this unique North Jutland gem - a true holiday paradise in Denmark.
Compressed idyll and charm
In Sæby you'll find cosy and idyllic streets and houses, quiet pedestrian streets, sun, beach and forest - and of course - great food and drink.
- In short, Sæby is compressed idyll and charm. The unique location between forest and beach, and with a fantastic cosy town in the middle, makes it a great holiday destination. Sæby is known for its cosy atmosphere, beautiful old houses, cobbled streets, the harbour with good fish restaurants, small art galleries and not least the opportunity for a fantastic beach trip in the summer, says Business Developer at EnjoyNordjylland, Line Boel.

Stress-free shopping
Shopping without stress? Then take a stroll through the pedestrian street in Sæby, which offers a wide range of cosy and nice shops. In the square, which is located in the centre of the pedestrian street, you can enjoy cosy live music during the high season - and of course it's always possible to find a nice place to have a cup of coffee or a cold drink at one of the cafés.
Denmark's most cosy street?
When you're done shopping, walk a few metres down the street and turn right along Algade. The idyllic cobbled street Algade is the epitome of Sæby. Here you'll find beautiful old houses next to each other, and in summer the bonderos are in full bloom. Here you will also find a number of cosy, creative workshops with glass art and ceramics, among other things. You won't find a more intense Danish idyll anywhere!

Sæby Church
Sæby Church is the town's absolute landmark - visible from both the north and south sides of town. The whitewashed church from the end of the 15th century is located at the "bottom" of idyllic Algade and is definitely worth a visit - both inside and out.
Sea and beach
Picturesque Algade takes you all the way down to the cosy harbour area in Sæby. Here you can see, among other things, the almost seven metre high statue, "The Lady from the Sea". In fact, Norwegian Henrik Ipsen originally drew his inspiration for the book/theatre play "The Lady from the Sea" in Sæby. And if you cross the wooden bridge, you'll arrive at a fantastic and child-friendly beach, which is extremely popular in the summer.
Culinary delights
The harbour in Sæby is also nationally known for its many cosy and delicious restaurants that serve fish specialities with everything your heart desires from freshly caught fish from the Kattegat coast. After a great dining experience, you should be tempted by an ice-cold dessert in one of the ice-cream parlours.

The Fisherman's Path
Make your way back to the city along the Fisherman's Path, which is located in the park and along the river. The Fishermen's Path got its name from the old days when fishermen who lived further up the town were not allowed to transport their equipment along the finer Algade.
Sæby watermill
Once you've passed through the park and crossed the road, you'll find the idyllic and very well-preserved Sæby watermill. The watermill is one of the city's most beautiful landmarks, located by the bridge over Sæby Å. Originally a grain mill, the mill was built in the 1600s and at the time belonged to none other than the king.

The mini city of Saeby
The miniature town of Sæby is - as the name indicates - a miniature version of Sæby. Over the past 20 years, a number of fantastic enthusiasts have built a faithful replica of no less than 160 Sæby buildings in a scale of 1:10. This is not only an experience for children, but also for childlike souls. You'll find the mini city in the southern part of Sæby - right out towards the Kattegat coast.

Sæbygård forest
If you fancy a little walk in the woods, it's not far from Sæby town centre to the beautiful Sæbygård forest. The forest, where the Sæby River meanders idyllically through the gorge in the forest, has been a favourite destination for residents, tourists and artists since the 1800s. Today there is also an MBT trail that is challenging for both beginners and advanced riders.
Take a walk around "Gedebjerget" - 85 metres above sea level you get a fabulous view of Sæby and the Kattegat coast.
Sæbygård Castle
Sæbygård Castle is a cultural gem and a fine example of a 16th-century manor house. Today, the beautiful buildings house a museum, and parts of the castle are also rented out for weddings, birthdays and other special occasions.
Sleep well in Sæby
Sæby offers a number of great places to stay - whether you want to stay in a holiday home, private guest house, campsite or hotel. If you're looking for a little extra luxury and great spa experiences, you should take a closer look at Hotel Viking - Spa & Wellness, located just 300 metres from the sea in the northern part of the city.
